A pair of adventurers, Alex Earl 21 from Hanworth near Kingston and Joe Patrick 22, from Woking will be heading off on a tandem from Athens to London on September 30 to raise money for CHASE hospice care for children.

They admit it’s a fairly mad idea but after a summer working on an idyllic Greek Island, they reckon a bit of pedalling won’t do them any harm and will raise valuable money for CHASE at the same time.

Joe has supported CHASE before when he worked at Sainsbury’s in Burpham and organised a fundraising dress up day, so he knows about the valuable work CHASE does for families with life-limited children.

Joe and Alex have both been working at Club Vass which is a windsurfing centre on the island of Lefkas. Joe has been assistant Beach Club Manager for the summer. “I enjoy cycling and doing lots of random things and I’m really passionate about travelling,” he says.

Alex has been working at a chef at Club Vass with Joe and agreed to go along on the ride Joe said because he is “generally up for a laugh.”

They are working on final plans for the route and Joe says it will take them about seven weeks to complete.

The lads say they have lots of family members and friends at home around Kingston and Woking who are going to support them and they are hoping to get lots of sponsorship to raise as much money as possible for CHASE.

CHASE supports families with children who are not expected to live to reach adulthood throughout South West London, Surrey and Sussex. CHASE has to raise £4 million and year and with very little government funding, CHASE relies heavily on fundraising and donations.
