Sophia Burke is the lucky winner of a Sandown Park Racecourse competition to design the front of the racecard for Variety Day on August 22.

The nine-year-old Hersham resident submitted a design she believed captured the spirit of the day, with a horse, bouncy castle and giant spacehopper.

The competition was open to children between eight and 12 and Miss Burke’s colourful design won her family tickets to Variety Day as well as a VIP day out at Marwell Zoo, which will include a guided tour.

Variety Day has been an annual event at the racecourse for more than 50 years and this year it will provide free entertainment for children as well as all the usual horse racing action.

The aim of the day is to raise money to improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Variety Club, so Sandown is aiming to surpass all expectations in support of the deserving cause.

Tickets are still available at sandown.co.uk.
