Elmbridge Council is offering two young people the chance to become apprentices for a year within their community support and housing division at the Civic Centre in Esher.

The apprentices will be paid £100 per week and will also study for a NVQ in business studies with Brooklands College in Weybridge.

The programme starts in November and is open to teenagers between the ages of 16 to 19, who ideally live within Elmbridge.

Lee Smith, who has been working as an apprentice for town planning and building control at the council, said: “I am interested in progressing my career within local government and felt the apprenticeship scheme was an ideal opportunity to get my foot in the door.

“I have enjoyed acquiring a wide variety of new skills and found the scheme beneficial for furthering my career.”

The council said full mentoring and training will be given to the apprentices, as well as active assistance in helping them secure permanent employment once the year is up.

The closing date for applicants is Monday, September 7, at noon.
