Owners of a derelict building in West Kensington face court action if they do not restore it to its former glory.
Neighbours of 80 North End Road have consistently complained about the vacant four-storey Victorian terrace after a fire ripped through the building in 2002.
Since then, the unsightly building has been blighted with fly-posting and graffiti, and the scaffolding put up to make repairs seven years ago has never been taken down.
Councillor Nicholas Botterill, cabinet member for environment, said: “We have acted reasonably at every stage but residents are now rightly demanding that we take action.
“We will not allow this building to fester any longer and have started the legal process that will lead to this eyesore being removed.”
The owners, 80 North End Road Ltd, have now been served with an enforcement notice, forcing them to restore the building to a clean and safe standard by Friday, November 6.
If they fail, they could be taken to court, facing a maximum fine of £1,000.
They are also being taken to court for not obtaining a scaffolding licence, with a £5,000 fine if found guilty.
