A computer games initiative to get children off the streets has proved so popular more locations are being sought in Croydon.

Resurrection games, the brainchild of Mark Bonam, 39, has become so popular there are now no spaces left.

The full-time youth worker, who has worked with gangs in South America, not only looks after the children of the church’s congregation but also youths in the local area.

He started the club, at the Croham Road Baptist Church, as a way to help keep children safe and out of trouble.

Joining forces with Sergeant Ian Courtman from the Croham Safer Neighbourhoods team he started up the club which is now fully booked.

Sgt Courtman is now looking for more locations in the borough to push out the scheme to because of its popularity.

Sgt Courtman said: “If you look at the amount of kids interested in coming along to the club and how quickly the spaces were filled then there is a really desire for something like this across the borough.

“We are now looking for other places in the borough to see if we can roll this scheme out and have other people start up game clubs.

“Mark has done an outstanding job and you can see that the kids really enjoy it. It would be great if other places like this could open up in Croydon.”

Resurrection Games, currently runs twice a month on Fridays for 11 to 14-year-olds and 14 to 18-year-olds from 7pm until 11pm. Mr Bonam is thinking of extending these hours to once a week.
