Julian Speroni: Had a couple of routine saves to make but could do nothing about bullet header for goal. Set up a chance for Moses as well but distribution needs improving. 6

Danny Butterfield: Got forward well and put in plenty of good crosses. Was in the right place at the right time to keep out Rendell's header at the start of the second half. 7

Paddy McCarthy: Not looking as dominant in the air as he was last season but his form will come. 6

Jose Fonte: Snuffed out Torquay's attack easily in the first half but struggled after the break. Booked for a reckless tackle late on. 6

Clint Hill: Usual no nonsense performance. Would like to see him attack more down the left rather than always hitting the long ball. 6

Shaun Derry: Did his job quietly and well, particularly in the first half, but faded after the break. 6

Neil Danns: Maybe his best performance in a Palace shirt. His turn and cross for the first goal was top class but should have scored a sitter before that. 8

Alassane N'Diaye: Improving with every game and his last-minute clearance in front of his own goal was superb. Needs to track back more at times though. 7

Darren Ambrose: Not a vintage performance but came to Palace's rescue with two goals, doubling his tally from last season. Man of the match. 8

Victor Moses: Looks fit and eager to play. Could have scored a hat-trick in the first half and if Palace want to do anything this year they have to keep hold of him. 8

Alan Lee: Looks a different man to last season. Is willing to work for the team and run when needed to. N'Diaye's height takes some pressure off him too. 7

Subs:

Kieran Djilali (Lee, 63): Showed willingness to run and put in two very good crosses. Tries to play the fancy ball too often though. 5

Sean Scannell (Moses, 78): Didn't make an impact. 5

Johnny Ertl (Ambrose, 90): No time. 5
