Chiropractic is a health care approach first founded in the 1890s. It is generally seen as an alternative and complementary medicine as some of the ideas are not scientifically proven. This has caused tension between the chiropractic approach and mainstream medicine that still remains clear today.

In May this year the Advertising Standards Agency decided that chiropractors should not advertise themselves as doctors, unless they are qualified. It was also ruled that the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and learning difficulties should not be advertised as these methods of treatment have not been medically proven.

Hounslow council are currently informing all chiropractors of these new rules, as the Advertising Standards Agency have stated that failure to follow these guidelines could result in prosecution.
