Trialist Goran Maric scored for Crystal Palace last night as the Eagles began their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 win at Boreham Wood.

The Serbian striker headed home the opener for Palace before Johnny Ertl and Kieran Djilali made it 3-0 before the break.

Ex-Wood striker Simon Thomas was introduced after the interval and scored the fourth for a Palace side largely made up of youngsters and trialists with Neil Warnock preferring to rest his first team squad for next week's trip to America.

25-year-old Maric has come up through the ranks at Spanish side Celta Vigo but despite scoring 49 goals in 149 appearances for their B side and being top scorer in the Spanish Third Division two seasons ago, he has only turned out once for the first team.

Last season he was loaned to Barcelona B and scored 11 goals in 33 appearances.

Other trialists who played last night included midfielder Danny Maguire, who was released by QPR this summer and spent time training with Palace earlier this season.

Australian Patrick Kisnorbo also played the first half but will not be travelling with the squad to America tomorrow and will instead turn out for Derby County in their friendly against Burton Albion.
