A series of projects within the One Planet Living initiative will start in the next few months, with £1m being invested in Hackbridge and surrounding areas.
Projects One Planet Food, Greening Business and Living Wandle are due to start in the coming months, kickstarting the making of Hackbridge into the UK’s greenest suburb.
One Planet Food is a three-year partnership programme, funded through the Big Lottery and the local Primary Care Trust, which includes measures to tackle obesity and teach certain groups of the population how to grow their own food.
Greening Business is a project backed by the European Regional Development Fund which will work with about 200 businesses on energy-saving and other resource-reduction measures.
