The condition of two of three siblings still fighting for life more than two weeks after an arson attack has worsened.

Junaid Masud, 16, his brother, Zain, 22, and sister, Nabiha, 21, were all left in a critical condition in hospital following the attack at their Tooting home on June 21.

The family’s younger sister, Maleha, 15, who was also badly injured in the blaze, died on June 25.

On Tuesday afternoon a police spokesman confirmed Nabiha and Junaid’s condition had deteriorated.

He said: “They were in a critical but stable condition, but their condition has now worsened.”

Zain remains in a critical but stable condition, after all four children were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

Last week Burntwood School, where Maleha was a student, held a special service to honour her memory.

The theme was peace in our community and the wider world, and including reading from students, teachers and community leaders.

One of the readings read: “Let us be united, let us speak in harmony, let our minds apprehend alike.

“Common be our prayer, common be the end of our assembly, common be our resolution, common be our deliberations.

“Alike be our feelings, unified be our hearts, common be our intentions. Perfect be our unity.”

Zain, Junaid and Nabiha were all rescued by firemen as fire ripped through the Lessingham Avenue house at 4.30am.

Zain, 22, jumped from a first floor window with his mother Rubina, 53, who was discharged from hospital the next day.

Police say the fire was started deliberately.

A 14-year-old boy from Croydon appeared Balham Youth Court last Friday charged with murdering Maleha and four counts of attempted murder.

He has been remanded in custody and will next appear at the Old Bailey on July 16.
