Thames Water have apologised to road users in the Chessington area after a burst water main forced a road closure at about 5.50pm today.
They anticipate the Leatherhead Road will be closed until about 12pm tomorrow as they work to fix the burst 5in water main.
Thames Water spokesman Simon Evans said: "It is under a carriageway so we apologise for the traffic and delays.
"This is not a huge main but its location being under the road makes it very difficult."
