Thousands of festival fans flocked to Streatham on Saturday for the opening event of the area’s premiere cultural event, the Streatham Festival.
The record number of visitors to the event, named Splash at the Top of the Common, watched musicians from across the globe perform.
A carnival parade by local schoolchildren dressed in water-themed costumes, who made their way along Streatham High Road, kickstarted proceedings.
The water theme continued at the top of the common with a knitted river, giant seagulls, and musical instruments made from plumbing equipment.
The week-long festival which features dozens of events, from Shakespeare in the park to free dance classes, finishes on Sunday.
