Tributes were paid today to an Isleworth teenager “loved by all” who died on a swimming trip in Yorkshire.

Jack Chapman, 17, of Heldman Close, was on holiday after finishing his A-levels when friends lost sight of him in Widdop reservoir and called police.

Divers searched for five hours until they found the Isleworth and Syon School student.

His aunt, Maxine Samuel, said the family were overwhelmed by the support they received since Jack died.

She said: “I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and tributes that we have received since the sad loss of Jack.

“Jack was the most loving and kindest of people. He touched the hearts of everyone he met and his ability to make people smile and laugh was second to none. There are no words to describe our pain at this difficult time but our memories of Jack will remain in our hearts for ever.”

Isleworth and Syon School headteacher Euan Ferguson said: "We are all shocked and devastated by the tragic news of Jack’s death.

"Jack was a wonderful student throughout his seven years at the school. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and our thoughts and prayers are with them and his friends at this time. Support and counselling is being provided by the school for fellow students."

Friends and family have left moving tributes to the student on social networking site Facebook.

The group, RIP Jack Chapman, now has more than 350 members.

An inquest into Jack’s death was opened and adjourned on Friday in West Yorkshire.
