By Community Correspondent, Philippa Hennessy Local MP, Stephen Hammond has pledged his support for The Big Lunch and is urging Wimbledon locals to take part. The nationwide event is run by the Eden Trust and aims to promote community spirit and break down social barriers by encouraging as many people as possible to sit down together for lunch on Sunday 19th July 2009. The idea was dreamed up by Tim Smit and his friends at the Eden Project in Cornwall. With the help of our many generous partners, including EDF Energy and MasterCard, The Big Lunch team are working hard to make July 19th a day to remember and hopes to have as many as 6 million people taking part across the country. If having a Big Lunch just for fun doesn’t feel right for you then find a cause that’s close to your heart and doorstep - be it a hospice, reformed offenders scheme or even a hedgehog sanctuary.

If you would like to take part or organise a big lunch in your area, then visit the scheme’s website at www.thebiglunch.com.
