Old Oak Common has been highlighted as a prime site for a high speed rail connection linking Heathrow with other parts of the country.

Though at very early stages it could mean more homes and jobs for the area, if approved.

In a report developer Balfour Beatty said the site, near Wormood Scrubs, is best placed to meet rail demand and could help connect London to Heathrow, as well as the rest of the UK.

It said the site, which would also fit in with current project to build the Crossrail network and the area, has “significant regeneration potential”.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council wants a high-speed rail link with a Crossrail station on the underused site to connect existing rail services to the west, north and south via Paddington, Euston and Kings Cross.

It said the rail hub could pave the way for one of London's major regeneration opportunities, bringing 5,000 new jobs and 3,000 extra homes.

The government announced in January it would consider the case for a high-speed rail service linking London to Scotland.
