A mouthwatering concoction of strawberries, cream and meringue won a 10-year-old scout the title of Epsom’s very own junior masterchef.

On Saturday, the Ashley Centre Food Festival welcomed celebrity chef Richard Cawley, a veteran of TV’s Ready Steady Cook, who gave a number of food demonstrations and hosted the first Epsom Chef Factor competition.

Three scouts from 7th Epsom Scout Group competed to be top chef and the winner was Josh, who prepared an Eton Mess made with British ingredients of strawberries, cream and meringue. Runners up were Connie, 11 and George, 10.

Richard Cawley demonstrated his recipes for crispy pancakes filled with garlic mushrooms, chardonnay chicken served with stir-fried English vegetables and sherry berry trifle to a very impressed Epsom public.

He also gave away signed recipe sheets and complimentary goodie bags to those watching.
