Elmbridge Museum celebrated its 100th birthday with an Edwardian-themed party in Churchfields Recreation Ground, Weybridge, at the end of last month.

People who attended the Party in the Park were serenaded by the Cobham Brass Band and the Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor James Vickers, presided over the official birthday cake cutting ceremony.

There were also swing boats with vivid colours and festoons reminiscent of the Edwardian times and games of hoops and skittles replicated the era’s love of outdoor games.

The museum’s staff wore Edwardian costumes and there were information stands set up by the museum, based in Church Street, Weybridge, along with the Cobham Conservation Heritage Trust, the Walton and Weybridge Local History Society and the Weybridge Society providing a window into local history.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and cultural services at Elmbridge Council, said: “What better way to mark Elmbridge Museum’s centenary than with a family event like Party in the Park, brought to life by an Edwardian theme. The weather was perfect for a picnic and the Edwardian costumed staff certainly contributed to create a fun-filled celebratory atmosphere.”
