A bus driver has been left with injuries to his back after being assaulted with a stick by a group of yobs in Weybridge.

The incident happened at about 6.30pm on Monday, June 22, when the bus was at the Parvis Road junction with Brooklands Road near the business park.

An object was thrown at the vehicle causing the driver to stop and get out of the bus to challenge the youths. As he did, he was hit with the stick, causing red marks to his back.

The rear of the bus was also damaged in the incident.

Police officers attended the scene and later arrested two teenagers in Oyster Lane, Byfleet, on suspicion of assault.

A 16-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, both from Walton, have been released on bail until Monday, July 20.

PC Kevin Payne said: “This was a mindless attack on someone who was just doing his job and we won’t tolerate this sort of violence on our streets.

“This incident took place on a busy road in broad daylight and there were a number of people who stopped to assist the driver. I am appealing for those people to contact us so we can progress this investigation.

“Similarly if you saw the attack or have any information please contact Surrey Police.”
