Peggy and Harry Warner are truly a local couple.

On Saturday (June 20) they celebrated their diamond wedding and Harry’s 85th birthday. Almost their entire married lives have been spent in the borough.

Peggy and Harry achieved their wedding milestone on June 18, having married in Carshalton in 1949.

But even though the early years of their marriage were spent living in a caravan on Box Hill, the couple used to travel back to Carshalton each day on a motorbike and side car to work.

They went on to buy their house in Colburn Way, Sutton, where they have lived for more than 50 years.

Peggy and Harry have two daughters, Janet and Carol, and four grandchildren, Laura, James, Louise and Suzanne.

To mark their wedding anniversary Peggy asnd Harry received a celebratory message from the Queen.
