A man is fighting for his life after being hit by a van that crashed in to the front of a cafe yesterday afternoon.
Police said the white Mercedes Vito van crashed through glass-fronted cafe Braziliana in Westow Hill at about 3.30pm.
A man in his 30s was seriously injured, and was rushed to a south London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
It was unclear if he was inside the cafe when he was hit, police said.
The driver of the vehicle - said to be about 30 -years -old - was arrested and taken to a south London police station, where he remains in custody.
A section of the road was cordoned off and diversions put in place from 4pm, causing serious traffic jams.
The road was reopened at 8.50am this morning.
Officers from Streatham Police station are investigating the crash, and the Merton Traffic Garage, which deals with serious accidents, has been informed.
