Grass verges, the bugbear of many an Elmbridge resident, are now the responsibility of Elmbridge Council.

The council has taken over from Surrey County Council, a range of services with the hope of improving the borough’s street scene.

It will now share responsibility for highway verge cutting with Wyevale and Bill Kear Plant and Agricultural Contractors and increase the number of cuts to 12 a year.

It will also carry out weed control under its street cleaning service, which is provided by Veolia Environmental Services.

Councillor Jan Fuller said: “With the borough directly involved in the management of highway verge grass cutting and weed spraying, residents will benefit from a greener, healthier and well managed environment at all times.”
