Mini gunslingers from St Giles Infants School have been busy designing five metre high totem poles to decorate the school playground for this Saturday’s wild west summer fete.

A local flooring firm provided the Ashtead school with huge cardboard tubes turn into totem poles and the children have been hard at work with paint, stickers and glue ready for Saturday while parents have been designing a massive tepee to make an eyecatching entrance to the school in Dene Road.

Sarah Makroum, secretary of St Giles’ School Parent Teacher Association, says ‘We always adopt a theme for our Summer Fair, and this year the date fell on American Independence Day.

“Instead of celebrating with the usual stars and stripes theme we decided that bringing the Wild West to Ashtead was definitely much more fun! The Totem Pole idea got all the children involved, and we hope they will take great pride in spotting their artwork on the day. “ The fair takes place on Saturday July 4 from noon to 3pm.

There will be 25 stalls ranging from rootin tootin toys, calamity canyon to the Billy the Kid’s bottles, a buffalo balloon burst and even a bucking bronco.

Frontier food will be available from the barbecue.
