A memorial service commemorating the life of Honorary Alderman Mrs Pam Ballard will be held on Thursday June 18 at 3pm at Stoneleigh Methodist Church.

Councillor Mrs Ballard died in St Helier Hospital on Saturday, June 6.

Her life and enormous contribution to Epsom and Ewell over the last 33 years will be celebrated and recognised at today’s service.

Pam Ballard served as a Resident's Association borough councillor in Auriol Ward for 27 years, after first being elected in 1976. She served as Mayor in 1989-90.

Pam was active on many working parties and represented the council on many organisations’ forums and committees, with a particular interest in the welfare of the elderly and more vulnerable residents of the borough.

She served on Age Concern for over twenty years and the Council committee with responsibility for age related services.

She chaired the housing and personal services committee for four years having previously served as its vice chairman for two years.

Although she did not seek relection in 2003 she continued her interest in the council, attending civic and other events, including the annual council meeting and mayor making in May.

She was made honorary alderman in 2004 in recognition of her lifelong service and dedication to Epsom and Ewell.

Councillor Eber Kington said, “Pam embodied all that was good in local government - honesty, integrity, selflessness and service to others – and her contribution to the borough council and to the voluntary sector for over 40 years was immense.

"She loved working with and for people, and she will be missed by all those in the community whose lives she touched.”

The family have asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.

A private family funeral will be held in the morning on Thursday.
