Kingston’s Mayor was confronted with a man cling-filmed to a lamp post when he joined Street Pastors on a Friday night tour of the town.

Councillor Ian McDonald saw the stag party in action as he walked around Eagle Walk and the town centre to see first-hand some of the Street Pastor's work.

The Street Pastors, approaching their third year in Kingston, were out supporting those unfamiliar with the town, helping find transport for revellers and even providing flip flops to those with aching feet.

“It was wonderful to see how many young people were just coming up to the Street Pastors to thank them and tell them how well respected they are,” said Coun McDonald.

In the past three years, Street Pastors have removed 14,783 bottles or glass from the streets, removed two knives from the street, handed out 350 pairs of flip flops, 150 blankets and six sleeping bags to the homeless.

There are 48 trained street pastors in Kingston with four more training and it costs £25,000 a year to run, which is funded by churches, police, Kingston Council, pubs and clubs as well as individual donations.
