Weeks of planning and hard work to spruce up a part of Claygate Green was ruined when thieves stole 18 large plants from the site.
Work was completed on the St Leonards Road end of the green on Tuesday, June 9, but later that day, at about 10.30pm, a couple saw two men near the area acting suspiciously.
When the eyewitnesses challenged the men, they got into a white Ford Escort and drove away.
The next morning it was discovered that about £200 of plants had been stolen.
