Proud gardeners are being given just one more week to transform Sutton into one of the best budding boroughs in London.

The deadline for entries to the Sutton in Bloom competition looms next Friday, June 19, with winners announced in early July.

Judges will be searching for attractive front gardens featuring any combination of hard landscaping, bedding, herbaceous plants, shrubs, trees and lawns. Gardens with pot plants and hanging baskets are also eligible.

Noel Bergmann, of sponsors Times Square Shopping Centre, said: “A lot of people take a lot of pride in their gardens and Sutton in Bloom sets out to acknowledge the effort and commitment of those people who brighten up our borough. That is particularly true of the Best Front Garden category as entries can be appreciated by passers-by.”

The coveted award was won last year by Jean McNicholas, of Lymescote Gardens, Sutton.

Entry forms are available at local libraries, via the council website sutton.gov.uk or by calling Jackie Eldridge on 020 8770 5070.
