A group of daring thieves made a risky getaway along the railway between Kingston and Hampton Wick stations early on May 21, following a late night crime in the town centre.

Specially trained British Transport Police officers took to the tracks at 3.20am in an effort to hunt down the men, while a police helicopter was used to buzz the immediate area with no success.

Despite the extra manpower expended to catch the crooks, a spokesman for Kingston police could not say whether they had managed to catch the criminals.

Two people were killed in the space of three months on the tracks at Surbiton station last year, although neither death was considered suspicious.
