A Streatham man is believed to have been killed in a hot air balloon accident while on holiday in Turkey.
Kevin Beurle, 53, is feared to have been killed when the balloon plummeted more than 200ft to the ground after colliding with another balloon during a dawn flight.
Another nine Britons were injured in the accident over the Cappadocia volcanoes in central Turkey.
Mr Beurle, who worked at Queen Mary University on the Cassini spacecraft project that orbits Saturn, told friends only yesterday on Facebook how he was enjoying hiking in the area.
A spokesperson for the university said it had not yet been confirmed Mr Beurle was involved in the accident.
The Foreign Office confirmed a Briton had been killed in a ballooning accident and his next of kin were being informed.
Officials from the British embassy in Ankara left for the crash site to provide assistance.
