Ed Milliband, Secretary of State for energy and climate change, was in Wandsworth last week to thrash out ideas with community campaigners on how communities, like Wandsworth, can live sustainably in the future.

The three-day conference, at Battersea Arts Centre, addressed issues such as our dependency on oil and discussed ways on how communities, including Wandsworth could become self-sufficient and sustainable in the future.

Sadiq Khan MP said: “The enthusiasm and energy of the Transition Town movement is amazing.

“It's wonderful to see the way the Transition Town movement has grown in the last year, and to see how groups develop to meet the needs of their local community.

“Politicians come and go, the Transition movement understands we need long-term change and that this can only be achieved through grass-roots development and communities coming together to tackle climate change and energy consumption.”
