Police have appealed for information about an assault in Weybridge earlier this month, in which a woman was hit in the face.

The incident involved a 22-year-old woman in an alleyway, off Grotto Road, between 5pm and 5.15pm on Thursday, May 14.

The victim, who is from Weybridge, was walking down an alleyway when she was approached by a man.

They became involved in a loud verbal argument, which culminated in the male suspect hitting her in the face.

The victim sustained cuts to her mouth and the suspect, described as a white man in his late 20s, fled the scene.

Surrey Police officers carried out house-to-house inquiries in the area and an extensive search but could not trace the suspect.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a woman who was walking near the alleyway and may have seen the assault take place.

Witnesses should call PC Heidi Worrall on 0845 1252222, quoting reference EL/09/3825, or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
