An 84-year-old Wandsworth man who was stabbed in his own home has died after several weeks in hospital.

Joseph Walsh was stabbed in a house in Aslett Street, Wandsworth in April.

This week his nephew John Walsh called the Wandsworth Guardian from Belfast and said Mr Walsh died of a heart attack last Tuesday.

He said: “He survived the first one, and died of the second one.

“We never really had much contact with his family. There wasn’t a disagreement, but we didn’t meet much.”

Police said they did not yet have a postmortem examination result and would not release any other information at this stage.

Mr Walsh was taken to hospital just after 2.25pm on Thursday, April 23, following reports that an elderly man had been attacked in his home.

Officers smashed through the front door of the terraced house before helping Mr Walsh, who had several deep wounds.

After a critical stage he improved, but later deteriorated again and died.
