Nick Carle has been recalled to the Australia national team for the first time since November 2007.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has been frozen out under current coach Pim Verbeek who urged him to leave the Eagles earlier in the season in order to get back in the side.

But the 27-year-old has been training with former club Newcastle Jets since the end of the Championship season three weeks ago in order to stay fit and has impressed Verbeek enough to earn a recall.

He is part of a 30-man squad that will head to a training camp in Dubai this week before playing World Cup qualifiers against Qatar on June 6, Bahrain on June 10 and Japan on June 17.

Other English-based players in the squad include Tim Cahill, David Carney, Chris Coyne, Richard Garcia, Vincenzo Grella, Brad Jones, Lucas Neill, Mark Schwarzer, Mile Sterjovski and Rhys Williams.

Meanwhile, former Palace youngster Jamie Smith, released by the Eagles this summer, is to have a 10-day trial with Newcastle Jets next month.
