A budding young pastry chef has made it to the final stages of the Craft Guild of Chefs Young chef of the year award.
Will Torrent of Bachmann’s Patisserie in Thames Ditton reached the final three and will find out if he has won at an awards ceremony in London on June 1.
His achievement is considered particularly outstanding because the competition is open to all young chefs in any establishment in the UK.
Head pastry chef and director Greg Crouch Cadoni said: “I am pleased to say that he has proved himself to be an enthusiastic, hard working and organised member of my brigade.
“In the 10 months since he arrived he has continued to make significant progress in all areas of his work.”
Managing director Chris Bachmann said the shortlisting was a huge compliment for the company and confirmed the standards of the patisserie were among the best in the country.
He added: “I am delighted for Will. If he continues in this manner, I have no doubt that he will one day become a first class pastry chef.”
Craft of Guild Chefs chairman Nick Vadis said: “This year’s shortlisted contenders are absolute stars in their chosen field and a credit to the industry. Something to be incredibly proud of.”
