A woman is planning to ride 350 miles in six days for the Help the Heroes Campaign.

Jennifer Poole is taking part in the Band of Brothers bike ride from Portsmouth over to France and on from Cherbourg to Paris.

With 65th anniversary of D Day Coming up more than 300 riders will visit some of the battlefields of the some of the bloodiest battles in WWII culminating at the Eiffel Tower finish on May 29.

The ride, on May 24, aims to raise £20m for injured service personnel wounded in recent conflicts. The ride will also include 10 men and women from the armed forces.

The cycle route takes in some of the most significant WWII battle sites, paying tribute to the courage of American, English, Canadian, Polish and French allies in the Second World War.

Last year’s bike ride went on to raise £1.4m for initiatives that support British troops, such as the new £8m gym and swimming pool complex at Headley Court military rehabilitation centre, Surrey.

It also raised £500,000 towards a relatives’ house at Selly Oak hospital where many of the wounded are treated.

This year, the aim is to raise £20m to fund projects like Pathfinder that ensure wounded British service personnel are cared for in the future.

From veterans to Fanys, women who were special forces in WWII, from wounded soldiers to families cycling for friends, families or fellow Brits, there will be big mix of people taking part.

Mrs Poole said: “I did the Help for Heroes ride last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am co-running a project to try to make the defence industry support our troops more which is what initially got me into supporting Help for Heroes last year.”
