< Croydon’s businesses performed outstandingly in this year’s South London Business Awards with three local businesses winning a category and six being highly commended.

Local companies made up 23 out of the 65 shortlisted businesses, totalling one third of all entries.

ITC Concepts who deal with refurbishment and maintenance projects, was recognised as the Best Large Businesses.

Croydon Churches Housing Association (CCHA) was the Best Business for Customer Service.

Chequers, a building maintenance and cleaning company, won Best Business for Sustainabilty.

Eammon Daly, from ITC, said: “I and my fellow directors are absolutely delighted to receive the Large Business Award and are very proud of our company ITC Concepts, and all our staff; this award is due entirely to a team effort of dedication to detail and professionalism.”

Ian Winslet, the chief executive of CCHA, said his team was thrilled with their award and it proved that community based companies can compete against highly commercial businesses.

He said: “The whole process was a really rigorous one. There were mystery shoppers and an interview process here. I was pleased to get through against strong competition.

“It drives us to do the best we can, it is a great boost for the team and a great boost for Croydon.”

Kate Ward, director of Chequers, said: “It’s just so great. I’m in total shock.

“We didn’t think we were going to win it. I’m so pleased for the staff as it was a real team effort.”

Rowland Brothers was highly recommended in the Business of the Year, Best Business for International Trade and Best Medium Business categories.

Mott MacDonald was highly recommended in the Best Business for International Trade and Best Large Business categories.

Renowned restaurant Le Cassoulet was highly recommended in the Entrepreneur of the Year category.

Dotmailer was highly recommended the Best Medium Business Category.

Henry Riley was highly recommended in the Best Business for Training & Development category.

First Impressions was highly recommended in Best Business for Sustainability.
