For the second year running goalkeeper Julian Speroni has been voted Crystal Palace's player of the year.

The Eagles shotstopper beat off competition from favourite Clint Hill to win the prize at the awards ceremony at Selhurst Park last night.

Youngster Nathaniel Clyne was the big winner of the evening, being named young player of the year, scholar of the year and vice president's young player of the year.

Speroni, who celebrates his 30th birthday tomorrow, made 48 appearances this year, missing just one game in the league.

The Argentine kept 15 clean sheets this season, two more than the previous year, and produced a number of outstanding displays, not least in the final home game against Sheffield United.

Clyne, who only turned 18 last month was the find of Palace's season, making his debut against Barnsley in October and going on to make 29 appearances.

He was rewarded with an improved three-year-deal earlier this month.

Defender Paddy McCarthy won the prize for goal of the season for his stunning 35-yard strike against Derby County in December.
