From the football pitch to the crumbling comprehensives, racism is rife. As larger than life super heroes, role models to thousands of children, multi-millionaire football players still see race as a credible argument in ‘disputes’. And in schools, groups are subconsciously segregated, if there are any representatives from ethnic minorities.

Everyone thinks they are not racist. They are. Why does racism occur? Because of ignorance; ignorance of the way others think. Immigrants who come and do jobs more cheaply than British people are seen to be a threat to those already in those places. Having been made to feel disfranchised by society, the lower classes naturally look towards the group put next in line by society: ethnic minorities. Our own private school contains no more than ten persons who wouldn’t be considered Caucasian. This is no accusation made at the staff who decide on who comes to the school. In fact more of a reassurance that it is more likely to be that the ratio of Caucasian to non-Caucasian maybe the same in the application rounds of the process as the final result. Interestingly, the selective-state school over the road from our own has more of the opposite picture.
