AFC Wimbledon Promotion

AFC Wimbledon is a team made from a group of fans, after Wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes. They have secured a phenomenal 4 promotions in 7 years of existence. This was one of the greatest days in the short history of AFC Wimbledon.

The Dons played in front of a record crowd of 4,772. Key midfielder Sam Hatton, Jason Goodlife, Kennedy Adjei scored the three vital goals as a perfect Dons performance secured promotion for this amazing club. All three goals came in a fantastic second half performance from the small but fast rising side.

AFC Wimbledon finish the season three points clear at the top of the table. There biggest rivals were Hampton and Richmond who finished the season on 85 points.

The club has always been marred by controversy. But this is one of those few days when the whole community of AFC Wimbledon supporters, chairmen, managers and of course the players come together. They will now be in league football and the Blue Square Premiership. This is a marvellous achievement for a club that have had so many troubles in their recent and short history. AFC Wimbledon have had a controversial season. Most notably, they’re 2-2 draw against Bromley. The Dons had kicked the ball out so the opposition player could get attention for a injury that he had picked up. This was very sporting. In contrast, the next bit of play from Bromley was very unsporting. After the Bromley player had recovered a Bromley player kicked the ball into the goal. This caused mass remonstrations between both coaches and players. It is a unofficial rule. When one side kicks the ball out of play for a player to receive treatment the other side kick it back to them.

There were many more incidents of controversy in the Dons season but they fought through all of it with grit and determination and managed to gain promotion. Congratulations AFC Wimbledon.
