A late night Tulse Hill bar has avoided closure, despite police claims that guns were taken into the premises.

The licence of the SD Lounge by Tulse Hill station was reviewed last Tuesday, after police gathered intelligence guns had been taken to a private party there on January 23 and 24.

There had also been complaints of loud music from the bar and rowdy customers amassing on the pavement outside and urinating in the street, the licencing committee heard.

But the bar was allowed to stay open, after 23 new conditions were attached to its licence including using trained door staff and operating CCTV.

Donovan Murray, the bar’s owner, had argued all the complaints had been when the bar was run by its previous owner and there was no evidence the guns had been there.

He said the conditions of the licence were things he already ensured happened at the bar.

He would no longer be allowing people to hire the place out, he added.
