Surrey Police want to speak to a man seen on CCTV footage approaching another man who was found in Cobham High Street yesterday suffering from life threatening head injuries.

The injured man, who is in his late fifties, was found lying in a pool of blood outside Cobham Travel by paramedics at 4.30am on Tuesday morning.

CCTV footage viewed by police shows a white man aged between 40 to 60 helping the injured man down Cobham High Street before the incident.

He is between 5ft 7 and 6ft and of slim build and was wearing a black leather jacket, black shirt, light blue jeans and carrying a dark shoulder bag.

Police believe the injured man, who is still in a critical condition in St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, had spent the evening in at least one pub in Cobham.

The incident took place between 1.30am and 4.30am.

Detective Sergeant Mark Parry, of Staines CID, said he wanted to speak to the man in the CCTV or anyone else in the area at that time.

He said: “We are still in the process of piecing together the movements of the injured party during the evening of the incident and any information from members of the public could prove vital to this ongoing investigation.

“We are working closely with the family of the injured man who have expressed their gratitude to the people who have already come forward to assist and we would urge anyone who may have any information to do likewise.

“We know that this man had visited one or more of the local public houses during the course of the evening and we are very keen to speak to anyone who may have seen him in Cobham during this period or in the early hours of Tuesday morning."

Police described the injured man as white, 5ft 8in with grey coloured short to medium length hair.

He was carrying a rucksack and was wearing blue jeans, walking training shoes and a dark coloured coat.

DS Parry said: “This man has sustained very serious injuries so it is clearly very important for us to establish the exact circumstances of the incident as quickly as possible."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information about how the man’s injuries were caused should call Staines CID on 0845 125 2222 or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
