Police have denied rumours circulating around Cobham that an arrest has been made following an incident on the High Street yesterday morning, which has left a man with life threatening head injuries.
A man believed to be in his 50s was found in a pool of blood outside Cobham Travel on the High Street by paramedics at 4.30am on Tuesday morning and rushed to hospital.
After the police were called, the road was closed between Church Street and Hogshill Lane for four hours while forensic officers examined the scene.
CCTV footage was also taken from nearby shops with one shop manager claiming the police had informed her they were investigating an attempted murder.
Rumours in the town centre speculated that the man had died and that the incident had been a knife attack or a mugging that had turned fatal and an arrest had been made.
However, a spokesman for Surrey Police confirmed to the Elmbridge Guardian this morning that no arrests had been made and the man was still fighting for his life at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey.
