A mother-of-four from Hampton Wick has been chosen as a finalist for the MS carer of the year award by the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Pat Unsworth of Station Road in Hampton Wick was nominated for the exceptional care she provides to her husband Chris, who has suffered with MS for 15 years.

Mrs Unsworth said: "I was surprised and overwhelmed when I received a letter from the MS Society. I really don't feel that I do anything special or different than any other carer who looks after someone with a long term debilitating illness such as MS.

"I'm a generally positive person and I always try and be kind and compassionate to others who may be going through difficult times in their lives. I suppose that makes you appreciate your own life more."

She will find on Friday if she has won the award at a gala awards lunch at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington.

Barbara Williams, director of operations at the MS Society, said: “it’s fantastic that Pat has been listed as a finalist for the carer of the year award.

“The MS Society awards aim to recognise the hard work of individuals or groups and so we look forward to welcoming her to the awards ceremony in May and wish her the best of luck.”
