It's cup final time at Corinthian Casuals' ground in Tolworth this Sunday as London West take on Putney Vale in the West Fulham League's Alf Dear Cup final (3pm).

This should be a cracking game with Premier Division leaders London West (10 wins and just 4 defeats all season) facing Division One’s Putney Vale (13 wins and 5 draws) and currently in second place.

The odds must be on London West with an average goal-scoring tally of over 3 goals a game and just one conceded.

Watch out for top goal-scorers Andrew Grant (13 goals) and Orin Fredericks (10 goals) but the goals come from all departments with the London West team current holders of the Alf Dear Trophy.

However, Putney Vale is a dogged outfit and has scored 67 goals in just 21 games with goalscoring machine Austin Dickson with 29 gaols in 25 games and the WFFL’s leading goal-scorer.

Putney Vale was started in the 2006/07 as Roehampton Boys, from a group of frustrated players who just wanted to play football.

Actually they could not get into any other team they were so bad and that season proved they won just one game! But with a change of name and new management in season 2007/08 season the team entered the WFFL Division 2 and finished as champions.

In 2008/9 season they were promoted to Division 1 and finished runners up.

The team is supremely confident that it can overcome their opponents today London West.

London West was formed in the summer of 2007.  The team is a close knit group of friends and family with an abundance of talent, commitment and a hunger to compete.

The squad is made up of ex and current Semi Professional players that share a desire to play along side each other.

The decision was taken to enter a Sunday League with the intention to develop.  The West Fulham Football League was chosen as many of the players had some experience of playing there before.

Although in its first season London West reached 2 cup finals and finishing runners up in the league. In spite of this fantastic achievement, the Manager always believed that silverware should be the goal.

In its second season with a smaller squad of only 14 players, London West have not done themselves any favours and on 4 occasions have played matches with 10 men (winning once!)!

London West is currently competing to win the Premier League whilst attempting to retain the Alf Dear Cup.

By the end of today hopefully both goals may have been achieved?
