Communty business EcoActif Services has been shortlisted for an award at the RBS South London Business Awards 2009.

It was one of two businesses from Sutton who have made it the finals of the hotly-contested awards, which will take place at an Oscar-style ceremony on May 20 at Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace FC.

The other finalist from the borough is DP Consulting a disability equality practice whose consultants are disabled professionals.

They were among 52 companies selected from entrants from the 12 boroughs south of the Thames in the annual competition, for which the Sutton Guardian is the media partner and also sponsors the customer service award.

Peter Pledger, chief executive of South London Business, said: “This terrific result emphasises not only the strength of local business in south London, but also the sheer innovation, diversity and entrepreneurial spirit to be found here.”

Eco-Actif Services is offers help and support for ex-offenders, people recovering from substance and alcohol misuse and lone parents. EcoActif Services aims to improve lives and help reduce crime in society.

Mananger Amanda Palmer-Roye said: “We are very excited because we feel we are putting social enterprises on the map of the business world. This will be our third year as finalists so we have our fingers crossed.”

DP Consulting founder Danny Puresh says: “I am so happy that my work has finally been recognised for this award as it is often the unrealised potential of a few disabled people that have made disability equality something that people realise. It is something that needs to be done.”

Simon Thackray, Managing Partner of Thackray Williams Solicitors and judge of the Best Medium-sized Business category said: “Recession there may be, but all our finalists have demonstrated that by innovative thinking combined with effective management there are businesses in South London doing a lot more than simply surviving. Growth and increased profitability is still on the agenda for many.”
