Boris Johnson has ordered managers at Transport for London (TfL) to investigate the feasibility of a bus route between Fulham and Tooting, via Wandsworth.
Residents and politicians south of the river campaigned for the move throughout last year, with a 2,000 people signing a petition.
They argued the bus was needed to access health and leisure facilities, and claimed Fulham residents wanted easy access to Wandsworth as well.
Mark Clarke, Tory parliamentary candidate for Tooting, said: "This is good news. But residents want a bus route, not a review. We will need more pressure on TfL so that we get the right outcome."
