Judges from the National Teaching Awards were at a a Hampton school last week, after it was shortlisted for a prize.

Hampton Hill Junior School, in St James’ Avenue, is in the running for an award in the sustainable schools category for London.

The judges were at the school last Friday to see its waste free Friday project in action and also saw the school’s renewable energy project.

During the visit the judges spoke with year six pupils - who looked after them for the day - and saw paper mache globes which the youngsters had made.

Bill Jerman, headteacher, said: "We are thrilled to have been nominated and named as a finalist. The judges certainly had a busy morning with us and were able to see many aspects of sustainability in action in our school."
