A train guard has been punched and headbutted by a man who got off a train at Esher station.

The incident occurred at around 8.20am on Monday, March 16, on board a train travelling from Woking to Waterloo.

British Transport Police officers want to identify a man, pictured on a CCTV photograph, who may be able to help them with their enquiries.

PC Luke Hamilton-Wargent said: “When the member of staff asked the offender to show his ticket, the man repeatedly attempted to punch and head butt the victim before spitting at him as he got off the train at Esher.

“We have reviewed CCTV and we are also asking for help from any members of the public who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information that can assist with our investigation.

“This was an unprovoked attack on a member of staff who was simply doing his job and I am asking anyone with any information about this incident, or anyone who recognises the man pictured in the CCTV image, to contact us."
