Two businesses which received financial assistance from a brewery are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.

In 1990 the Chiswick's Fuller's brewery ran a new and small business competition and Sue Martineau of the Ultimate Event Company in Twickenham came first, winning £500, with Andrew Milbank of Milbank Carpets in Hampton Hill claiming the £300 second prize.

The owners of both firms, which started in 1989, said the prize came at an important time and helped their firms.

Mr Milbank is marking the 20th anniversary of his company with a series of events including a Win Beer for a Year competition - which is again being sponsored by Fuller’s.

The competition will reward the person who presents the oldest original Milbank Carpets invoice with 384 cans of Fullers London Pride.

Mr Milbank is also making donations to Hampton Hill charities African Revival, which is trying to empower Africans with skills and resources, and the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice, which cares for terminally ill children and their families.

“I wanted to support the two charities as a way of thanking all my customers for their business and loyalty,” he added.

Richard Fuller, of Fuller’s, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Andrew again, twenty years after his success in the competition.”

Twenty runners up in the Milbank competition will win London Pride polo shirts or trips for two round Chiswick brewery, entries need to be in by August 22 and the winners will be announced on August 28.
