A 26-year-old opera enthusiast from Wandsworth is taking on the big suits and running for the European Parliament on June 4.

Susannah Prins, an arts graduate of the University of Edinburgh, is a self-professed “fed-up citizen” who wants to do away with politicians who refuse to listen to ordinary people.

If elected, the Vicarage Crescent resident would be the youngest female to get a seat, and has pledged to donate half her salary to local outreach programmes if elected.

She said: “People are crying out for this.

"I think people are tired of career politicians who seem to be living in their ivory towers.

"They’re disconnected with reality.

“I’m not intimidated by them.

"You can have years and years of experience but you’re not willing to listen to the people whose money you’re using, you are less likely to do this job justice than someone who has the desire to make Europe work for its people.”

Miss Prins is running for London on behalf of Libertas, a multi-country party which is pro-Europe but aims to reform politics, stop wastage and end corruption.

She quit her job at the think tank Open Europe to concentrate on her campaign, but spends her free time learning opera with a teacher from the Royal Academy.
