South Norwood is to get a coin-operated toilet which will come as sweet relief for residents.
Ward councillors Sue Bennett and Luke Clancy have secured funding from the community projects’ fund to pay for the toilet, although a location is yet to be decided.
District centre manager Nadia Jones had attempted to persuade local businesses to adopt the “Richmond model”, where their toilets are available to shoppers, and to advertise this in their shop windows, but was not successful.
Coun Clancy said: “Too long have people been caught short in South Norwood with nowhere to relieve themselves.
“The new toilets we have won funding for will no doubt be welcomed by shoppers using South Norwood district centre.
“The council is committed to regenerating the borough’s district centres and this is just one example of where that commitment is translated into providing what residents have demanded.”
